- INTRODUCTION -

For this project, I wanted to communicate the unique, bold, and dynamic character
of Preston Market, a well-known and adored place in Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

The biggest draw-card of Preston Market is its produce and its dedication to variety, with many wonderful cultures from around the world being represented and celebrated through their food and wares. To enhance and promote this, I chose to focus on a variation of small businesses from different countries as well as showcase the variation of food offered here

My completed sketchbook involved manually drawing and writing all text and visual elements which were then scanned and assembled into composite illustrated layouts in Adobe Photoshop.
I then enhanced these composites with colour, texture, and dynamic compositional layouts to further reflect the lively, bold, and tactile environment that is Preston Market.

A short, four-page illustrated story of a day trip to Preston Market!

Original photographs alongside their scanned illustration images.

The photographs were traced over using black marker on tracing paper,
scanned, and then edited in Photoshop to create the final outcome.

One of the texture washes created with black ink and water on cartridge paper
which was then scanned, coloured in, and masked using Adobe Photoshop
to add texture and visual interest to the illustrations, in particular, the shop fronts.

”The perfect tomato!”
